Palimpsest

In October 2020 Abir started producing the Series “Palimpsest” Silk threads consisting of lines and dots on fabric and leather.

“I challenged myself and forced myself to try to forget the Arabic language and its calligraphy while somehow drawing it on fabric in a conscious unconscious state of mind” said Kobeissi.

Provoqued by the reactions of some people who only put Arabic calligraphy in an aesthetic framework, she tried to destroy the calligraphy that she knows and uses. As a result, works of art were created that left the artist in a state of amazement, especially after discovering that what she was actually drawing, is very much similar in shape and form, to ancient Semitic letters, that she had never learned or used.
